He began playing the accordion at age 7, and then took piano lessons for a while before switching to guitar at age 13. He’s also enjoyed playing the organ. He later played in a rock band that played popular covers, while writing and recording his own original music. During med school he continued taking piano lessons as a way to increase his mental dexterity. Today you can find him playing bass guitar at Edgewood Community Church in Waupun on the weekends.
During his pre-med, one of his 2 allowed electives was “History of Film”, “I’ve always loved movies so I even took an extra course in film production,” states Castillo on his love for movies. In 1994 he was cast in the movie “Mommy” which starred Patty Mac Cormack (of “The Bad Seed” fame). A sequel was made called “Mommy’s Day”, Thomas Castillo was again cast in the film, but played a bigger part opposite Patty Mac Cormack in the opening scenes. He has been involved in acting ever since.

Thomas Castillo states,” I want my patients to know that I have always been committed to providing the latest in quality eye care. I was the first ophthalmologist to implant folding intraocular lenses in the Quad Cities, something which is now the standard of care in cataract surgery. Dr. Wilkins and I routinely implant the best IOL’s possible for our patients, always attempting to give them the best vision possible”
